Popular Nigerian preacher, Pastor Bolaji Idowu, has stirred conversation with his bold remarks about the challenges facing the Yoruba ethnic group. During a recent sermon, the Lagos-based pastor stated that fear is the biggest factor limiting the Yoruba people’s growth and progress.

Addressing his congregation, Pastor Idowu, who is Yoruba himself, said:

“There is a problem with the Yoruba race. Even the ones that are 48 years old. The problem is fear. Life bows to the courageous but works against the fearful.”

He emphasized that fear leads to self-doubt, which in turn prevents people from taking bold steps or achieving greatness.

Pastor Idowu went on to compare the Yoruba with the Igbo people, commending the latter for their fearlessness and global reach.

“That’s why I love the Igbos. They are fearless. There’s no country in the world where you won’t find an Igbo man,” he said.

The sermon has sparked mixed reactions online, with some praising his honesty and others criticizing the generalization. Still, Pastor Idowu stood firm in his belief that overcoming fear is key to unlocking personal and collective progress.

“One of the reasons people never emerge or move forward is fear,” he concluded. “And fear leads to self-doubt. I’m telling you now because when you’re young, you can conquer it.”
