UK Government Adds 15 More Countries To Fast-Track Deportation List For Foreign Offenders [NEWS]

The UK government has broadened its fast-track deportation scheme for convicted foreign offenders, adding 15 new countries to the “Deport Now, Appeal Later” policy.

This expansion raises the total number of countries covered to 23, compared to the original eight when the scheme was launched in 2014 under then-Home Secretary Theresa May.

New countries added in August 2025:

• Botswana
• Brunei
• Bulgaria
• Canada
• Guyana
• India
• Indonesia
• Kenya
• Latvia
• Lebanon
• Malaysia
• Uganda
• Zambia

Original countries included since 2014:

• Albania
• Belize
• Estonia
• Finland
• Kosovo
• Mauritius
• Nigeria
• Tanzania

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper explained that the policy is designed to prevent foreign criminals from “abusing the immigration system” while ensuring their swift removal from the UK. Offenders can still appeal deportation orders, but only from outside the country.

The scheme, rooted in Section 94B of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002, was initially part of the government’s hardline approach to illegal migration. More countries could be added in the future as the UK continues tightening immigration controls.

Criticism from Rights Advocates

The policy applies solely to foreign nationals convicted and sentenced to prison in the UK, allowing their removal before an in-person appeal. Human rights groups argue that this undermines the right to a fair trial and creates barriers such as limited legal support, poor internet access, and language difficulties.

Government’s Enforcement Push

Between July 2024 and July 2025, the Home Office deported 5,200 foreign offenders—a 14% increase from the previous year.

“Those who commit crimes here will face swift removal,” said Yvette Cooper. Foreign Secretary David Lammy added, “If they wish to appeal, they can do so from their home country.”
