Renowned American televangelist and gospel artist Jimmy Swaggart has died at the age of 90.
He passed away on Tuesday while receiving treatment in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, weeks after reportedly suffering cardiac arrest on June 15.
Swaggart rose to global prominence in the 1980s through fiery sermons, best-selling gospel albums, and televised crusades that drew millions. Despite a major scandal in 1988 involving moral misconduct, he continued preaching and remained a significant figure in Christian broadcasting.
His ministry said, “He was not just a preacher—he was a worshipper, a warrior, and a witness to the grace and mercy of God,” the tribute added.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; son, Donnie Swaggart; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
